How to choose
- QuickMapServices covers most needs with a searchable catalogue of XYZ, WMS and WMTS basemaps. If you only need one or two, QGIS can add XYZ tiles itself (Browser panel › XYZ Tiles) without a plugin.
- Check each provider's terms before publishing maps: Google and Bing imagery has usage restrictions, and the OpenStreetMap tile servers are not meant for heavy use.
- Vector-tile basemaps (such as MapTiler's) stay sharp at any scale and can be restyled, but usually need a free API key.
